Wickside is a large canalside regeneration project in Hackney Wick, combining new homes with commercial, creative and community spaces. The development brings together new-build residential buildings, retained heritage assets and landscaped amenity areas to create a distinctive new neighbourhood close to the Olympic Park.
Across the project’s terraces, inset balconies and projecting balconies, MyDek supplied a coordinated non-combustible decking solution designed to suit the differing requirements of each external space.
A coordinated decking solution
For the terrace and inset areas, MyDek supplied Luxura A1 decking, providing the natural appearance of timber alongside A1 fire performance and the durability required for busy residential amenity spaces.
Aspira aluminium decking was supplied for the projecting balconies, creating a practical, non-combustible solution for the individual private outdoor spaces throughout the development.
The decking systems were installed on MyDek’s BoxRail support structure, giving the project team a consistent approach to substructure, deck build-up and detailing across the various balcony and terrace zones.
Specific Challenges solved
Alongside the balcony and terrace requirements, the scheme included playground equipment set within the decking layout. This called for a solution that could safely accommodate the apparatus without disrupting the wider deck design or compromising compatibility with the support system.
MyDek’s technical team developed dedicated playground anchors to securely integrate the equipment within the decking scheme. The bespoke anchors were designed to work with the BoxRail substructure, allowing the playground elements and surrounding deck areas to be coordinated as one considered solution.
By reviewing layouts, substructure and detailing at an early stage, MyDek was able to develop a practical solution that supported both the amenity design and the wider decking package.
